- Introduction of the characters- but not neccesarily all of them.
- Good use of sound and effects - non-diegetic music
- Title
- Effective use of costume to give the character meaning
- Mise-en-seen needs to be set up perfectly in advance and prepared in terms of props
- Reasearch how to do certain shots and scenes in adanvce, not on the day
- Writing a scripts in advance
- You do not need to show everything e.g. you do not need to show a murder as less is more
- Has to make sense to the viewer
- Lighting and shot compostion is key meaning a shot list and story board needs to be created before
Reccomendations for our thriller:
- avoid predictable places like the woods as hard to do tracking shots
- Do not use the school to much and making it look like something esle does not work
- Do not start with action e.g do not start with death
- Watch lots of opening sequecnes
- Opening sequence should have snippets but not give away alot ( small glimpse into the world of the film)
The opening sequence of seven is a descrete opening suqence because it does not reveal anthing on what the view is going to be watching; this gives mystery. This sets the tone due to the dark colours being displayed, which immediately gives away rthe genre. The sound is slightly out of tune giving an impression that the film is not going to be present. We also know this due to the odd angles of the font and the lighting which is being used in this.
