Mise-en-seen

Costume- this defines era, personality, importance, class and status
Lighting- this creates shadows e.g. to show a bad character. There can also be low key lighting
Actors- this focuses on movement , posture, facial expressions and gestures
Make up- To explore their appearance
Props- this is everything that is being shown within the clip
Setting- This is the location, tells the genre and the importance of the character

By understanding the idea of Mise-en-seen i picked a horror film called "A nightmare on Elm Street" i explored:

Costume- the ripped jumper shows struggle and violence and the blood on the sleeve implies death. The fact that he is wearing a hat covers up his identity and therefore making it mysterious.

Lighting- it is very dark signifying suspense and the danger that is involved. There is also danger on his neck to identify the smirk, evilness and the intensity of the burns. As well as this the lighting on the tip of the knife is to show the weapon being used.

Acting- He is looking down (not directly at the camera), so his face is in disguise. Due to his position it looks as if he is about to kill due the the position that he is in.

Make up- The face is all burnt, which indicates his revenge and therefore showing why he is smirking.

Props- the hat is used to cover up his identity and the knife has been shown to indicate the genre of the film, and what is going to happen e.g. killing.

Setting- the dark isolated area making the image terrifying.
