Arcade Fire music video :
- The narrative was about abounded children who were playing around in the desert which was an isolated location, whilst the indie pop band were singing about these children.
- The music video sold the band in a positive way due to the professionalism of the music video. It was a way to show that the indie pop group were different from all other music videos.
- The target audience for this specific video was for ages around 30 who like original music, not so popular music such as Justin Bieber
Foo Fighters- run music video:
- In the music video it continuously shows violence and rebellious which is authentic and would therefore attract rock fans.
- The music video would appeal to all ages because there is humour than can attract to a variety of different ages.
- There was a narrative which included of old people turning violent, which was clear to understand. Another convention is that there was lip- syncing and the repetition of the chorus. There were close up of the singer singing, dutch tilt whilst the guitar was being used and wide shot in order to clearly show violence.
Conventions of a solo artist performer: many of the bad performance conventions plus choreographed dances routines are used to enhance 'repeatability'. Also, a first person mode of address directly engaging the viewer through the camera which involves many close ups shots of eyes rolling and gesturing and if the video is a hybrid from cutting betwreen performance and narrative then the solo artist or band lead singer often becomes part of the narrative story, acting as narrator and participant at the same time.
Katy Perry- Roar music video:
- A lot of first person address
- Sold her star image through a lot of close ups, mid shots and low angle shots.
- Katy Perry becomes part of the narrative story
- Pop music videos used brighter colours to appeal to their target audience (young people)
- Visual effects designed in order to encourage us to watch it again
- Eyes rolling and lots of gesturing to attract herself to the audience
- Lip syncing to show that she is the star performer
- The lack of instruments used to connote that she is the star, not a band but just a singer.
